According to a report from Jin10 on July 19, Trump has raised his demands in trade negotiations with the EU, hoping to maintain tariffs on EU goods at a level of at least 15%-20% in any agreement reached. In the weeks prior, both sides had planned to keep tariffs on most goods at a baseline level of 10%. However, Trump's more hardline stance this time aims to test the EU's bottom line in terms of tariff pressure.

Insiders say that Trump is indifferent to the EU's recent proposal to reduce auto tariffs and is willing to maintain the auto tariff at the original rate of 25%. A U.S. official revealed that even if an agreement is reached, the U.S. government is considering setting reciprocal tariffs at over 10%.

A senior EU diplomat stated that if Trump insists on keeping the reciprocal tariffs at the level of 15%-20%, this will return to the level seen at the start of trade negotiations in April this year, possibly forcing the EU to take retaliatory measures.
